So basically I for one think that a modular starship with parts to accommodate a pair or three of smaller shuttles/strike boats as an optional configuration would be a very good thing.

Set up the modular components right, and one set would have a range of possible configurations from multiple escort vessels to a large cruiser or even small capital ship capable of carrying a horde of attack craft or assault landers for a planetary invasion.... ;)

I'd be sorely tempted to rig it up so I could detatch the strike craft in game

all those ships look awesome, except the yamato, that just looks goofy in my opinon
