Ya know, I'm thinking this is probably a 'prank' suggestion... BUT, am I the only one who thinks a line of 'Firefly/Serenity' like would be pretty cool?

Actually what inspired this bit of whimsy on my part was this 80's cartoon show:

And I thought, after watching several episodes, this would never make it as plastic set. than I actually thought back to all the IG proxy armies made with WGF historical sets (not to mention the ones GW actually sells or sold), and realized that if WSS, Arabs and Zulus war's British where being converted for Sci-Fi armies maybe space cowboys aren't that bad an idea after all (still posting it on April fools though 8-) ).

So maybe one (two at most) armored per spur and the rest should be unarmored (I am thinking space posse) if we take this seriously.

very light armoring on the two chaps that did bring armor, though you could have space ned kelly armor.

Well, armored or not, they certainly shouldn't be wearing spandex. So, Space Cowboys, yes... Spandex Space Cowboys with swords that look like katanas, no.

"What no spandex space cowboys!?! heresy BLAM!" to misquote another site  . I tend to agree with you on spandex, but it is sort of traditional (and that is not a katana it is more of a US cavalry saber in space).

maybe this will be better (except with hats):
