D&D Lackey's (WGF Persians, AKA Sachakans)

Postby Lord_Bryon » 19 Nov 2014, 11:30

These baddies represent the basic minions of the major antagonists for my D&D campaign, The Sachakans. They are made up of a mix of parts from WGF, Fireforge, and EM4. Mostly WGF kits including Persians, Ashigaru Yari, and Saxon parts.

These are my first attempt at the "dip" method. I like the effect for the most part, however, not the most amazing results either. I'm not entirely pleased with the paint job but considering these guys represent 2-3 hours of work from clipping to finished product I'm okay with it.

We finally get to see them, I guess I am going to have to post bare plastic troops at some point. How did you do the crossbow?

The crossbows come from the Fireforge games foot sergeants box. The bits and pieces match almost perfectly with all the wgf mini's I have

You flatter me. I'm going to try a batch more using my usual technique of GW washes just for some comparisons. I can't seem to get enough flat clear coat on these fellas to make them stop being so shinny.

Try testor's dullcoate, or I think they call it matte clearcoat now. It always works for me to remove the shiny.

Wow these guys look great Bryon.
I also agree, they are a bit too shinny for my idea of 'real soldiers'. Just my personal preference, but in my opinion, the world doesnt "shine" so much. Even when I do armor, plate or chainmail, I choose Reaper 'Aged Pewter' to give the armour the look as if it has acutally been used.

Testors Dull Coat is what I too used in the past.. then I found that a store brand Flat / Matte finish seems to work just as well for my needs and costs less.
