For your consideration, something old, something new:

Actually, they are IIRC the oldest line of white metal starship models produced in the US, Valiant Miniatures Stardate 3000 line:

They were the very first starship minis I ever bought waaaay back in the mid-late 70s. My first batch were long ago lost to various moves and mishaps, so when Valiant put them back in production I was ecstatic, and wasted little time in acquiring a whole new batch. Next up will be my first of the alien ships, their Hyperspace Submarines, so stay tuned... 8-)

Ah, Valiant is a good metal company when it comes to quality sculpts. I actually own at least one of their clanwars recasts (I actually have quit a few clanwars figures that I got off ebay to accent my growing WGF plastic samurai army of course  ).

I will keep my eyes on this thread.

It is pretty amazing when one realizes the advances in conceptualization of space travel and craft from the 1950's to the 1970's!

Yet, when one considers the 1980's to now, there is a definite LACK of advances (if not regression).

Those ships from the 1970's are just as futuristic now - and scientifically based, on top of it all.

The Valiant ships were originally featured as top view graphics for the counters in an old space combat board game called Alpha Omega. I owned a copy back in the day, played it during lunchtime a few times in high school, and have always regretted having sold it off many years ago at a convention flea market. :?

A few years ago someone posted a PDF copy of the game complete with ship control sheets and other materials online, and I wasted no time acquiring them accordingly. One of these days once I've accumulated enough painted ships, I'll see about running a convention game for old time sake. 8-)
